Run4Dad - DruAnn Clark Price's PledgePage

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you for visiting my webpage. This past year has been the best and worst year of my life all wrapped up into one. With the loss of my father, I have been searching for a way to celebrate his life. I know that, in one way or another, Allan Belden Clark (Dad), left a lasting impression on all of you. His spirit lives on in everyone’s lives that he touched…but for some reason I need more than that. I want to stand up on a mountain top and tell the world how wonderful my father was. I want generations to come to feel his love and celebrate in his life with me.

…SO…

…my mountain top is going to be a marathon (you didn’t actually think I would climb a mountain…you know me, I hate the cold). I am running the Maui Marathon in memory and celebration of my father (September 16th). Why a marathon? I felt it needed to be something hard… something that would take dedication and determination… something that would celebrate good health and being alive… something that would honor my father. In order to make this journey successful, I am going to need your help.
I am raising money in memory of my father to be donated to the MD Anderson Cancer Center. This is the Center where Dad went in for his cancer treatments. The focus of the Center is SURVIVAL and FAMILY. They work hard to give all the patients and families hope while providing treatment. For this very reason, they do not have a memorial wall when you walk in…who wants to go into a place for chemotherapy and see a wall of folks that have passed? I know that Dad would not want that either. Instead, they have a garden plaza on the 4th floor of the Center. This area is walled in with glass blocks providing sunlight and sanctuary for patients and their families. In this plaza they formally thank donors for their contributions to the Center…this is where I want Dad’s name forever displayed. Everyone who finds the strength to go on another day will do so in the light and generosity of people who chose to give.
The money raised will be donated in Dad’s name on behalf of everyone who loved him. It will be used to directly help other patients and their family members affected by cancer. Donation money is put into one of three areas:
1) Technology – The world of cancer treatment is always changing. Luckily, new equipment is being developed to better treat cancer patients.
2) Facilities – Due to their great reputation and compassionate approach to cancer treatment, MD Anderson Center has more patients than they have the facilities to treat. They are forever expanding and enhancing their facilities to better accommodate more patients and their families.
3) Research – MD Anderson fund numerous research grants to further advance the science of cancer treatment.

So, what am I asking from you, my family and friends? I am asking that you help me make this happen. Please click on the DONATE link (TOP LEFT) on this website. Even a small donation will help me reach the goal. I need to raise $5,000 to make this happen. I will keep everyone updated on the progress on the STATS and CONTRIBUTORS page.

Also, while you are here, please sign into the guestbook… share a story or thought. I have a lot of thinking to do over 26 miles of running, your words will help inspire me. If you have pictures of you and my Dad that help to celebrate his life, email them to me and I will add them to the website (druann@gmail.com). I know that myself and others will find a lot of comfort and happiness with your thoughts and pictures. I will try to upload as many as I can (I am having some trouble formatting some pictures).

Please check back with the website and I will keep y’all updated along the way. Remember, every moment of life is worth a celebration. If you have not appreciated life and its precious moments, take time right now to do so. Thank you all for your love, support and generosity.

Love,
Dru

WEBSITE HINTS: Navigate through the website with the tabs on the top left of the page. I will update the DIARY tab every couple weeks to let you know how my running training is going. Pictures will be added to the PHOTOS tab as I figure out how to format them. I will update the list of CONTRUBUTORS as I get notified or receive a donation. If you make a donation and do not see your name up there in a week or so, please email me. The GUESTBOOK tab lets you leave a message. Check the STATS tab to see how the fundraising is going and to check my training update to see how far/long I have run so far. The LOGIN button is for me to make changes to the site, you do not need to click on that button. If you click on the DONATE link, there are directions on the screen on how to donate. Please email me if you have any questions.
